When I first started my painting business, I asked a few carpenters (as I would occasionally run into them) if they advertised.
They always said no. They said they got business from word of mouth. I didn’t know if that was just a carpenter thing or if all service businesses got jobs this way.
But I do know one thing from over the years, if you do good work, people will refer you to others. And these referrals usually hire you, sometimes off and on, for years to come.
I knew one older painter who said he stayed booked up for as much as 6 months in advance.
Now I use more than just referrals, but satisfied customers ranks high on the business scale. I have gone as long as two years before I had to advertise again, so it works.
