You can make big money in the commercial realm of owning a painting business. And you can also make fantastic money in the residential painting business.
I have never done ‘industrial’, but it looked like fun to spray the outside of an empty GM plant that was converted to other businesses back in the early years of the 21st century.
Whoever painted that GM plant did a nice job, and it probably made them some serious money. It went from GM blue to a nice dark beige color, if I remember right.
Years ago, I read about a painting contractor who had a large crew of painters. He talked about the benefits of doing industrial painting vs. residential painting. (The two are as different as east is from west).
He talked about things like industrial accounts (the companies have deep pockets) and how he was scheduled to make a large amount of income that year for him and his crew (I think it was $750,000).
My mix has always been residential and some commercial. I have made some great money doing both. Doing commercial painting can be easier and does pay well, I have found.
Whatever you make, painting for residential folks, you can easily DOUBLE and even TRIPLE that with some commercial jobs!
Commercial painting has proven to pay me very well. There is so much money you can make in this niche. And you don’t need any specialized tools that you can’t just rent by the week or month.
